Available to rent from mid October to mid May, while we are living in the main house, we offer the pool cottage as a self contained rental, with use of the heated swimming pool and a magnificent garden.

The old stone cottage, which has been recently modernised, is on a terrace above the main house, with its own approach, a private terrace for dining, lovely views to the sea, and side access to the pool terrace.

The winters in Monchique are growing months. In October the first rains after the long hot summer stimulate a second spring of wild flowers, while the chestnuts and olives ripen. This is great walking weather. Around Christmas and New Year there are dry sunny days with warm sunshine and cold nights. The spring brings a succession of new flowers, wild lupins and sweet pea overtake the terraces followed by poppies and jasmine. All of this is fed by rains, which can be heavy and prolonged. Sometimes we are in the cloud all day, which, though it has its own romantic appeal, is a unavoidable fact of life in the mountains.

The Pool Cottage is an old stone building that was once a tavern serving wine and medronho to local farmers. We have converted it into a fully self-contained holiday rental for the off-season. A comfortable bedroom is provided on a wooden gallery under the rustic exposed roof beams, with access to an ensuite shower bathroom. Below this a further bathroom and a large open-plan living area that can be used for extra sleeping. The cottage has a full size kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, fast wifi, and a large screen television.  There is an open fire, with logs provided, and underfloor heating that makes it extremely cosy. Outside the front door is a terrace with dining furniture, potted orange trees and a spectacular view to the south coast. There is also a side door that opens directly onto the pool terrace, perfect for a bracing dip before breakfast. The pool is for your use, and we try to extend its use by heating it in Autumn and Spring.

Although it is adjacent to the main house, its elevated position makes the cottage feel very secluded and you can feel you have the whole valley to yourself.
